Straight from Erding, Germany, Erdinger is now one of the biggest Germany weissbiers on the market. It is exported across the globe and they produce several high quality beers. One of them just happens to be this one you’re reading about right now. The Erdinger Weissbier Dunkel was created in 1989 as a birthday present from the Brewmasters of Erdinger to the breweries owner, Werner Brombach. The present was so well received that the Dunkel was marketed just one year later in 1990.
It appears dark brown in colour and is well balanced between the hand-picked wheat and barley malts mixed with German Hallertauer hops. The aroma picks up the wheat and slight coffee and chocolate notes resulting in a full-bodied beverage. The palate detects caramel, nuts as well as spices and fresh bread and a velvety texture with fruit and spices on the finish. The signature Erdinger yeast creates a 5.3% bottle conditioned beer that whilst relatively new to the company is based on an age-old recipe. This refreshing and easy drinking dunkel can be paired well with game dishes as well as a marinade for other meat dishes to give them a distinctive flavour.
